Vice President Kamala Harris has stated that the United States has no intentions of deploying combat troops to Israel or Gaza, as Israel confronts the challenge of dealing with Hamas terrorists responsible for the surprising attack on October 7, which resulted in over 1,400 Israeli casualties.
Following the Hamas attack, the U.S. Navy dispatched two carrier strike groups to the eastern Mediterranean. Reports have emerged of Iran-backed groups firing on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria, prompting the deployment of approximately 900 additional troops to the Middle East. Additionally, the U.S. conducted airstrikes on Iranian weapons storage facilities in Syria.
Furthermore, the USS Carney destroyer in the northern Red Sea intercepted three land attack cruise missiles and several drones launched by Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen toward Israel. This marked the first response by the U.S. military in defense of Israel during the conflict.
During an interview on “60 Minutes,” Harris clarified, “We have absolutely no intention, nor do we have any plans to send combat troops into Israel or Gaza.”
Harris affirmed that the Biden administration supports Israel’s response to the terrorist attack but also emphasized the distinction between Hamas and Palestinian civilians.
Harris stated, “A terrorist organization, Hamas, slaughtered hundreds of young people at a concert. By most estimates, at least 1,400 Israelis are dead. Israel, without any question, has a right to defend itself. That being said, it is very important that there be no conflation between Hamas and the Palestinians. The Palestinians deserve equal measures of safety and security, self-determination, and dignity, and we have been very clear that the rules of war must be adhered to, and that there be humanitarian aid that flows.”
“Innocent Palestinians also have a right to life, security, and peace,” she added. “Hamas is an authoritarian organization that does not necessarily represent a broad swathe of the Palestinian people, and we must not conflate all Palestinians with this terrorist organization.”
