Avrumi Wolodarsky has been a talmid and an integral part of Yeshiva Darchei Torah since 2004. Because of his medical situation, he is bound to a wheelchair — yet he is a full-fledged member of Darchei’s Beis Medrash Heichal Dovid. Recently, his fellow bachurim decided to surprise him for his birthday.
They went all-out.
Not only did they purchase the largest birthday cake they could find; not only did they think about what he would most appreciate as a gift (an MP3 player loaded with Jewish music & shiurim, plus top-of-the-line headphones); they made sure to decorate the Yeshiva dining room for supper as befits a proper birthday party.
Surprised, Avrumi declined to speak except to express his thanks to his chaveirim.
It being an event where actions truly spoke louder than words, Rav Yaakov Bender, Rosh HaYeshiva, did not give a speech either. He simply declared: “Thank You, Avrumi, for bringing out the best in the bachurim.”
