News 12 reports on the the NY state Education Department updating guidance and resources to ensure every private, independent and religious school in New York is keeping up with the state’s public schools. This includes hundreds of yeshivos in Rockland County, seating approximately 27,000 children.
The state Education Department says it respects a parent’s right to choose where their children are educated and plans to keep the process collaborative.
Schools that do not meet state expectations will be expected to make the necessary changes to fall in line.

Stop taking government money and there will be no problem
Money is not the issue. There is a compulsory education law on the books to impede child labor, this is not a money issue regarding the funding from the state for education. Regardless, the DOE will do enforcement as the DOB does building enforcement. They will come on Saturdays, knock twice and then administratively close any complaints. This is much to do about nothing, regarding enforcement.

There are various reasons for compulsory education. An educated citizenry is necessary for an advanced and healthy state, good economy, etc.
Your depiction of government enforcement is flawed. Yes, sometimes enforcement is not as good as it should be, but to paint it as a joke overall, in all cases, is inaccurate. Ask people who have felt its heavy hand upon them.

I went to public school, where we were taught history. I had a father who went to college to teach history. I don’t talk out of my tookis.
I have been on the “heavy handed” side of enforcement. I know that enforcement is subjective, just ask those living in NYCHA housing.

I don’t see why we chasidim should learn basic material to be able to communicate properly with the outside world this is completely unacceptable to force our schools to teach basic English and math as we might chas veshulem help our children make an easier parnasah if they are given a decent elementary and high school education.
Every yeshiva parent, en masse, should flood the registration lines for public school education for their children. They’ll come running to the yeshivos , begging them to reopen. Instead of being filled with the children of all other nations whose parents go from bringing their kids to public school baby sitting service on our quarter then they’re off to the welfare and food stamps and Medicaid offices then back to pick up their kids from the public school babysitting services, maybe there will be some respect for our yeshiva system.
Wake up Yidden! Just like the government is trying to impede parents in making their own choices on how they raise their child medically (ie. vaccines, chemo), it is also trying to stop us from making our own choices on how we raise them educationally. My advice to yeshivos is to stop taking gov’t money. Little by little parents are being told how to raise their child by gov’t officials who really don’t care. They have an ulterior motive, and that is to push their own liberal agenda to destroy our mesorah. This is not a conspiracy theory. Just look at history going back to the Czar in the mid-1800s who tried to enforce the Russian language on our children. It was all a ploy to try to destroy our way of life, R’L.
