Today, Rav Chaim Kanievsky was asked by MK Yitzchak Pindrus, with the assistance of Rav Chaim’s grandson, Yanky Kanievsky, whether people should receive the new Covid-19 vaccine.
The exchange took place at Rav Chaim’s home at 23 Rechov Rashbam in Bnei Brak.
Rav Chaim was asked whether people should take it or may take it. Rav Chaim responded that there is an obligation for people to take it; it is not optional. Rav Chaim then responded to a follow-up question, stating that people need not be afraid to take the vaccine.

You take the polio vaccine not to get polio, the measles vaccine not to contract measles, but what is purpose of the Covid vaccine? Will those vaccinated not get Covid anymore, which means not become sick ever again and live forever because, after all, Covid is all the sickness and illness under the sun and the cause for all the deaths? Or is this an apikorsic question and you just have to follow the Health Dept’s instructions naively and inject yourself without rhyme or reason, without purpose whatsoever?
And if so, why do you still have to wear a mask after the injection?
