Yerushalayim Municipality employees were required today to deal with an unconventional call, after a resident in his 70s fell into a trash can buried underground and was trapped inside.

In the morning, residents reported that a man fell into a buried bin on Aryeh Doltzin Street in the Givat Masua neighborhood of Yerushalayim.

“Someone fell in. He can’t get out. It’s very deep. You have to come and rescue him,” one resident told the 106 hotline.

Firefighters arrived at the scene. One of them was Eitan Tzaliach.

“We received an unusual call about a man falling into a buried bin in the Givat Masua neighborhood,” he said. “We saw that he was standing on his feet and talking, but he was stuck in the bin.”

Firefighters called for municipal sanitation workers, who picked up the bin with a truck so the man could be taken out.

“Once the tin was raised, we opened the container carefully and extracted the man in healthy condition,” said Tzalaich.

The resident related that he was trying to get out a bag of medicine that had fallen into the trash can and then he fell in.

The man emerged from the contained wearing a mask.

“In the past we encountered animal rescues, but I never encountered a person who fell into a buried bin,” one of the rescue forces recounted. “We immediately transferred him for medical examination by rescue forces.”

The municipality has called on residents to exercise extra caution near the garbage containers, and in the event of the loss of valuables, seek help through the municipal hotline.

  1. Was my self esteem in there? I’ve been searching every garbage can for years but have had no luck finding it. All the naysayers keep telling me to search the garbage.
