A noteworthy meeting took place this week at Givat Rokeach in Bnei Brak, as the Brisker rosh yeshiva, Rav Avraham Yehoshua Soloveitchik, went to the residence of the Slabodka rosh yeshiva, Rav Dov Landau.

The two roshei yeshiva had a conversation for about an hour about the burning issues of the day, and at the end of the conversation, the subject of the conscription law came up.

According to sources, Rav Soloveitchik told Rav Landau that now seems to be a time to correct the injustices against the world of Torah as there seems to be a possibility of passing a law that would provide a complete exemption for Torah students from being drafted into the army.

Rav Landau responded that seemingly a complete exemption is not possible, but “it is mandatory to demand that the ‘Tal Law,’ with a Toraso Umnaso arrangement, be enacted, with a superseding clause that would prevent the High Court from invalidating the law.”

  1. Wow. Okay. Thanx for clearing that up. Initially I thought they were discussing whether it was kidai for the Yankees to spend that much money on Aron Judge.

  2. Better yet, enact a law that would prevent the High Court from picking their own judges. Secondly, enact a law that would prevent the High Court from meddling into political affairs.
