The White House will hold a press briefing Thursday for the first time in more than 40 days, returning to the briefing room as the Trump administration weighs who will succeed outgoing press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
A White House official confirmed that the briefing is scheduled to take place but did not disclose who will appear at the podium to address reporters.
The return of the briefing comes just days after Leavitt completed her final day as White House press secretary. She is expected to remain involved with President Trump as an outside adviser while also taking a role with his MAGA Inc. super PAC.
Earlier this year, when Leavitt took approximately a month of maternity leave, several prominent members of the administration stepped in to conduct White House briefings. Among those who appeared before reporters were Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The White House has not announced Leavitt’s successor, though several possible candidates have emerged in speculation surrounding the position. Among the names reportedly being discussed are CNN commentator Scott Jennings and Alina Habba, who previously served as U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey.
Trump, meanwhile, has shown no apparent urgency to fill the vacancy. During her final day as press secretary, Leavitt said the president is “his own best spokesperson.”
