According to a report by Axios, Israel deliberated over the prospect of launching a retaliatory strike against Iran on Monday night, only to ultimately defer the decision. Citing sources from both Israeli and US circles, the report revealed that the Israeli War Cabinet contemplated authorizing the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) for a potential operation against Iran during the Monday session. However, as the night progressed, a choice was made to refrain from action, purportedly due to “operational reasons.”

The Biden administration was reportedly informed by Israeli officials on Monday about the scheduled war cabinet assembly and assured of subsequent briefings on the outcomes. Following the deliberations, Israeli authorities conveyed to their American counterparts that the decision had been made to postpone any offensive action.

“We are not sure why and how close it was to an actual attack,” remarked a US official, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding the situation.

Amidst mounting international pressure, particularly from the Biden administration, Israel has been urged to exercise restraint in response to Iran’s provocations, aiming to prevent a further escalation of tensions. Concurrently, Israeli officials remain divided regarding the timing and scope of any potential retaliatory measures.
