Each year, thousands climb up to the rooftop of the Aish HaTorah building in the Old City of Jerusalem to enjoy the breathtaking and inspirational view of the Western Wall from seven stories above the Kotel Plaza. Now, that location will be greatly enhanced by the presence of a glowing two-meter high mezuzah case, the largest in the world, designed and created by David Roytman Luxury Judaica.
In a unique partnership between one of the world’s leading outreach organization and the world’s premier designer of luxury Judaica, this unique and high tech mezuzah will grace the rooftop of the Aish World Center Dan Family of Canada building that overlooks the Kotel. Rabbi Steven Burg, CEO of Aish Hatorah, says, “We are proud to partner with Luxury Judaica on this venture. David Roytman is a world expert on exotic and high-end Judaica. He began designing quality kippahs, tallis bags, and accessories when he recognized a need for elegant and fashionable Judaica accessories for his exclusive customers. “My vision,” says Roytman, “is to change the community’s view on Judaica items and to give these items the prominence that they deserve. It’s really all about Jewish pride.”
The giant mezuzah is Roytman’s crowning achievement. It will stand two meters (over six and a half feet) in length, and will be exhibited in a glass showcase. The mezuzah display, a technological achievement, comprised of dozens of LED screens that will change color and design, will also feature an educational component so visitors can learn about this important mitzvah (commandment)
A klaf (parchment), he says, will be placed in the mezuzah by Aish HaTorah in the future and a grand opening ceremony marking this significant achievement will be held on October 3rd.
The oversized mezuzah is sponsored by the Rodsheld and Shushanna Yusopov family. Roytman says he chose the Aish HaTorah rooftop for the mezuzah because of its spectacular view and deep significance. “This is symbolic,” he says. “Just as the mezuzah protects the Jewish home, so does the Almighty protect the Jewish people here, at the holiest place in the world.”
