Yellen Says She ‘Practiced’ Her Signature for Bills

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen joked that she repeatedly practiced writing her own signature before it appears on bills next year after her predecessors’ were forced into do-overs because of their messy penmanship. “I knew this was something you could really screw up and I wanted to get it right, and I practiced and I practiced,” Yellen told Stephen Colbert late Wednesday.

Yellen explained that former treasury secretaries Tim Geithner and Jack Lew both had to redo their signatures after people mocked them for being unreadable. Yellen added that she will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, next week to see the first bills printed with her signature. Read more.

  1. Her appointment for the people is to ensure the bills will be worth something. that is more important than the way the bills appear.

  2. One former staffer at the Treasury Department told reporters on Thursday that when he worked in the Treasury Department, he was in constant awe of how accurate Yellen’s economic forecasts were.
    “I recently got a preview of Yellen’s signatures on the new dollar bills,” he said, “beautifully done. And I also witnessed her incredible prowess in predicting the future state of the economy.”
    “And let me tell you something,” he said, “she’s always right on the money! Incredible!”
