KINGSBRIDGE: 45-year-old Fernando Balbuena-Flores was killed and his 5-year-old daughter was injured just before 8am Monday after police say he jumped in front of a moving train in the Bronx while holding onto her.
Amazingly the child found a safe spot and was not seriously hurt. Cellphone video captured good Samaritans helping the frightened child get back up onto the platform. Right before the man jumped, witnesses say he was on the phone and was calm. “I heard him telling the wife that, ‘You look out for the other two kids, I’m gonna take her to school,’ and then he said, ‘I love you,'” witness Pamela Ivy said.
Neighbors said the father was a quiet man who suffered from depression and was on and off his medication. – [WABC]

because it can happen to frum people too!! depression and mental illness can hit frum and non frum people too!!

So does that mean they have to be thrown under the bus, ignored by our community, remain single forever and die a lonely old bitter bachelor?
ignored or not ignored, the whole movement to classify “mental illness” as an illness “just like a physical illness” has caused tremendous damage. In the old days, people recognized that there were hard times and people had emotional issues, got help, and moved on in most cases. Obviously some people needed more help than others, and a tiny minority didn’t get out of their rut, but emotional issues were a fact of life and a temporary thing.
Then the psychiatrists and their enablers came along and decided that no, it was all about “chemical imbalance” which has never been proved. So now it’s not enough that a relative suffers from “a dreadful disease” but now people assume it must be hereditary and the whole family is black-listed.
Then what happens? People under stress sometimes crack, and then people pounce and say, “You see? It IS hereditary!”
And no longer do people need support. No, all they need is drugs, with dreadful side effects, dreadful withdrawal symptoms, and if they look weird when they’re taking their chemical cocktails, then “it’s the disease, stupid.”
