300 Families Gave Half of Election Money

gop 2015A New York Times investigation found that 158 families have donated $176 million to the presidential election so far, much of it to Republicans, by giving more than $250,000 each.

They, along with about 200 other families who donated more than $100,000, made up more than half of all campaign contributions.

The vast majority of these influential donors have self-made fortunes, many of them made through hedge funds.

The Times further reports that the neighborhoods these families live in are concentrated, small, and homogenous: practically none of the ultra-wealthy donors’ relatives are black. Read more at The New York Times.

  1. How about unions donating exclusively to Democrats out of the mandatory union dues – without asking the membership If and to whom should their hard earned money be contributed! How about big Wall Street and Silicon Valley corporations donating primarily to Democrats! How about the mainstream media carrying the Democrats’ water – which equates in billions worth of free advertising!

  2. “How about unions donating exclusively to Democrats out of the mandatory union dues”

That used to be illegal but the awful Citizens United decision not only legalized that but allowed unions to campaign to the general public and not just their members. And it is the Republicans who refuse to support anything that would overturn Citizens United.

” big Wall Street and Silicon Valley corporations donating primarily to Democrats! ”

I challenge you to find a single Wall Street or Silicon Valley corporation making a single donation to anyone.

Leaders of Wall Street usually support Republicans. Tech leaders do support Democrats because Republicans are trying to destroy them by giving the telecoms monopoly power over the internet. It is self-preservation!

“mainstream media carrying the Democrats’ water ”

Funny, they have been as negative towards Hillary Clinton as the partisan witch hunt in the House of Representatives.
