Brooklyn officials have busted a $20 million counterfeit ring that peddled fake designer bags and Nike sneakers emblazoned with pictures of President Barack Obama. Prosecutors say six people were arrested today on trademark counterfeiting charges. The ring operated out of a self-storage facility in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. The bogus merchandise seized includes thousands of fake Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Coach hand bags, fake jeans and fake sneakers. The merchandise was smuggled into the U.S. from China. The two-year investigation began after officials discovered the storage unit being used as a citywide hub for dealers. Retailers came from across the city to make wholesale purchases.
The investigation included the district attorney’s office, state police, the Waterfront Commission and NYPD officers.
