Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Wednesday afternoon that he would resign his position in the Netanyahu government, and that he will call for new elections.

“I’m here to announce my resignation as Defense Minister for the State of Israel,” Liberman told reporters at a press conference.

“The question is why now. As far as I’m concerned, what happened yesterday, the ceasefire yesterday, with the negotiations with Hamas, amounts to a capitulation to terrorism. There’s no other way to describe it. It has no other meaning, it is simply a capitulation to terror.”

“It is no secret that over the past few months, there have been disagreements between myself and the Prime Minister. For instance, my opposition to the [decision] to permit fuel from Qatar to be allowed into the Gaza Strip. I did not want to permit Qatari fuel in [to Gaza]. I thought that this is a mistake. Only after the Prime Minister made a formal written order was I forced to allow Qatari fuel into the Strip.”

  1. B”H good news. He was constantly behind chareidim to join the shmad army and even stated recently that in another few years 60% chareidim will be in the army. Out you go!

  2. Lieberman is finally right. Bibi has completely lost all credibility. He is simply looking forward to winning the lifetime achievement award from his close friends at the NY Times. He views himself as the John Kerry of Israel. My, how the mighty have fallen.

  3. Lieberman resigned and is calling for elections hoping to be elected as PM now that the citizens are mad about the Bibi’s new ceasefire.

  4. I’m very right wing but I really don’t get this. Why shouldn’t Israel agree to the cease-fire?

It is extremely unrealistic to think that Israel has the ability to permanently destroy the terror infrastructure in Gaza. The most that will be accomplished by continuing to fight is a tremendous loss of life and destruction on both sides. And in the end, there will be a ceasefire anyhow. Chamas will immediately go right back to rebuilding their terror infrastructure and rearming. Plus they will be in a lot better position to recruit more terrorists and gain public support when they tell people in Gaza “we wanted a cease-fire but the Israelis insisted of fighting further”

Absent a clear realistic plan of disarming Hamas and ensuring future peace what reason is there to fight further?

  5. the chassidish rebbes were right. Lieberman wasn’t going to change his stance on giyus.. The litvish world sold kedushas yerushalayim out with one of the reasons being supposedly that leon will have lieberman change the giyus status… well well….
