In an announcement Monday evening, The Prime Minister’s Office says the War Cabinet voted to proceed with a military operation in Rafah. Earlier in the day Hamas claimed it had accepted a ceasefire deal.
“The War Cabinet unanimously decided that Israel will continue the operation in Rafah to exert military pressure on Hamas in order to promote the release of our hostages and the other goals of the war,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Simultaneously, although the Hamas proposal is far from what Israel would accept, the Israeli government will send a delegation to Cairo with the hope of reaching an agreement acceptable to Israel.
The IDF confirmed that it is attacking terrorist targets in Rafah in a “targeted manner.” Per Arab sources, IDF tanks and infantry forces have begun crossing the fence and are on the ground in the southern Gaza Strip in the Rafah area.
