Funeral Held For 16-Year-Old Stabbed To Death At Toeivah Parade

downloadShira Banki, 16, who suffered critical injuries when she was stabbed at the toeivah parade on Thursday in Yerushalayim and died on Sunday afternoon, was laid to rest on Monday in Kibbutz Nachshon.

Banki and five others were rushed to hospitals across Yerushalayim after they were stabbed by Yishai Schlissel, a radical who was only recently released from prison after having served 10 years for a similar attack in 2005.

Banki suffered critical injuries to her upper torso and was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where she was placed on life support as doctors fought for her life. After three days, however, she succumbed to her wounds. Her family has decided to donate her organs.

“Shir-Shironet, the intelligent, beautiful, pleasant, curious, musical girl. The girl who bloomed like a beautiful flower, when the last year was the height of everything,” Shira’s parents, Uri and Mika, said in their eulogy.

“Many times we received bundles of compliments from those who saw and heard Shira. Not a week went by without a compliment from someone about our firstborn, and we would return from every teacher-parent conference with two kilos worth of pleasure. And all of this innocence, beauty, happiness and goodness fell on the altar of hatred, wretchedness, cruelty, negligence and stupidity,” the parents said.

  1. Re R’ Shlomo: maybe to give us a chance to express our heartfelt condolences, and to iterate that the way this rodef acted was not a reflection of any community.

  2. re my comment: there’s no edit or delete button. I do want to apologize. I saw the other article and where you’re coming from. For anyone reading this article and comments, please see one further down where R’ Shlomo sincerely expresses his sadness.

  3. #3Sorry, tzippi

Their goal is to weaken our resolve

    Could you explain thus:
The fellow stabbed 10 (or was it 6)years ago and was put in jail

He told GSS he intends to stab again.
They “happen” let him out 3 weeks ago?
    Then let him roam freely?

We’re supposed to fall for it for being ” just incompetence”?

As much as we abhor murder- which is chayav hereg
there are thing we which abhor more than murder- this is chayav sekilla
irrespective of what the media has made PC

  4. Tzippi,

It’s rare and unusual and perhaps invoked often incorrectly ,but there is the concept in Judaism of collateral damage

[Do you offer condolences for innocent arabs killed next to terrorists in Gaza?]

By showing up to the parade, she and all the victims brought it upon themselves as a national choteh U’machti
