More Old Than Young in Obamacare

obamacareJust as critics feared, it wasn’t younger Americans who flooded the pool of Obamacare enrollees, but rather older, and potentially less healthy, insurance seekers.

55 percent of those who used the federal and state marketplaces are 45 to 64 years old, while only 24 percent of users are between the ages of 18 to 34.

An older population could potentially cause premiums to rise, but Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius said, “We’re pleased to see such a strong response and heavy demand.”

Overall, 2.2 million Americans had enrolled by Dec. 28. Read more at The New York Times.
