Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman to Embark On Whirlwind Visit to Europe June 7, 2010  12:10 pm

rav-shteinmanRav Aharon Leib Shteinman will be embarking on a brief, 48-hour trip to Europe beginning tomorrow. The trip is being undertaken following years of requests by European Torah communities for a visit from the venerated gadol, who will impart chizuk and inspiration to the Jews of the kehillos he will visit in Odessa and Berlin.

In the past, Rav Shteinman has gone on such journeys with the Gerrer Rebbe to the United States and Europe. This time, however, the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Orchos Torah, Rav Shteinman, will be traveling accompanied by close confidantes.

Tomorrow afternoon, Rav Shteinman’s flight will leave Ben Gurion Airport and head directly to Odessa.
Wednesday morning, Rav Shteinman will go to Berlin, where he will visit the Jewish community there. In the afternoon, he will fly to Gibraltar, where he will stay for the night.

Was this a last minute decision? I saw his main Gabi, Itchele Rosengarten, in Lakewood today. He always accopanies Rav Shteinman when he travels. It's hard to believe that Rav Shteinman would travel without him.

Rav Shteinman has no gabbaim. There are those who feel it a great zchus to spend time in Rav Shteinman's home and help direct the visitor traffic, help him in and out of cars, or simply to stand at his side when he is surrounded by a crowd which might inadvertently crush the frail nonagerian. Rav Shteinman would get on the plane and travel alone and would never say "I need this one or that one to accompany me". So much for "hard to believe".

Most of the Jews left Odessa in the 90s.(They would do it earlier if the Medinas HaShmad would permit). What happened in Berlin we know. What are these "european jewish communities"?

Jews live all over the world, even in the darkest places, and need chizuk
