[Levaya info below.] It is with great sadness that we report the sudden passing of Rabbi Akiva Ehrenfeld z”l, the youngest son of the Mattesdorfer Rov, Rav Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld. Reb Akiva, a beloved young talmid chochom, resided in the Lakewood, NJ, community. He was just 39 years old and leaves behind a family of nine children.
Reb Akiva’s rebbetzin, Mrs. Tzivia Ehrenfeld, is a daughter of Rav Shlomo Freshwater, rov of the Sassover shtiebel and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Chayei Olam in Golders Green, London. Rav Freshwater is a son-in-law of Rav Gedaliah Schorr zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas.
Reb Akiva is also survived by his siblings, Reb Dovid Aryeh Ehrenfeld, Mrs. Miriam Gantzvi, Mrs. Sara Hencha Horowitz, and Reb Asher Anshel Menachem Ehrenfeld.
Those who knew Reb Akiva describe his remarkable hasmadah, his aidelkeit, and his sterling middos tovos. “He was a gem,” said a friend of Reb Akiva’s. “Hashem has plucked a rose, a beautiful rose, from our midst.”
Reb Akiva had been sitting at his Gemara early this morning when he was found unresponsive.
Further details and levaya info will be reported as they become available.
