WHO: Zika Now ‘International Emergency’

The World Health Organization declared Monday that the spread of the Zika virus in the Americas now constitutes an “international emergency.”

The statement came as the agency convened an emergency meeting to assess the mosquito-borne virus’s 2015 arrival in Brazil, resulting in a spike in related birth defects, and an eventual spread northward throughout the Americas.

Experts predict as many as 4 million cases in the Americas this year. Read more.
