Anyone who was born between 1981 and 1996 is deemed to be a millennial. Today millennials are in their early 20s to late 30s and have a massive influence on all aspects of life, including the economy, society, and politics. Their lifestyles differ in so many ways when compared with other demographics and, in this article, we’re going to take a look at five of the most significant lifestyle trends that millennials follow.

Health and Wellness

Males and females within this age group enjoy taking care of themselves, so it’s hardly surprising that they’re dubbed the wellness generation. Whether they’re working out in the gym, embracing the benefits of meditation, or looking for ways to improve their diet, millennials are seeking a balance between physical, mental, and emotional health. Many are also questioning the way they eat and turning to more vegetarian or plant-based diets. They are increasingly more conscious of how their food is produced and the effects it has on the body and the environment.

Travel and Experiences

As more and more embrace a minimalist lifestyle, millennials are placing more emphasis on experiences rather than purchasing material things. If the experience involves travel, all the better. Many are happy to spend large amounts of money on travel, regardless of financial security. They may take several vacations throughout the year, with weekend city breaks becoming increasingly popular too. Although some will save to pay for the experiences they desire, most have no problem taking out personal loans to fund the cost of flights, accommodations, and living expenses. Their attitude is to enjoy the experience now and worry about making the repayments later.

Food as an Experience

While millennials are more aware of the top lifestyle food trends and the origins of their food and how it’s produced, they very much see food as more than just sustenance. Many see food as an experience to be enjoyed and savored and an event to be shared with friends and loved ones. They love to try new foods and new flavors and embrace cuisines from around the world, often spending significant amounts of money for a meal, even if it is outside their budget. One of the primary drivers of this behavior is social media, where influencers share their food and dining experiences online for all to see.

Mobile Online Surfing

Millennials are one of the generations who are changing the way we surf the internet. Many of them rely exclusively on smartphones and tablets rather than laptops and desktops to get online. The use of smartphones and tablets has increased significantly as people want to stay connected while they’re on the go. This demand has driven developers to adopt a mobile-first approach when they create websites and apps. Desktops are no longer the focus for tech companies.

A Desire for Speed and Convenience

Millennials love speed and convenience. They want their products and services straight away without having to leave their homes. To meet this demand, many retail stores now offer same-day deliveries, collection points in store and the option for customers to schedule their deliveries at a time that’s convenient for them. With the arrival of one-click ordering, it’s easier than ever to get the things we want.
