The NYPD is working to determine the identity of a woman who tragically died after being set on fire on an F subway train in Brooklyn on Sunday. Authorities indicated that the victim suffered such severe burns that identification may require the use of dental records. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. near the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station when a man set fire to the woman’s clothing while she was asleep. After the train arrived at the station, the suspect exited the subway car and sat on a bench on the platform, watching the woman as she perished in the flames.
Law enforcement officials have stated that there were no prior interactions or verbal exchanges between the attacker and the victim before the assault. Surveillance footage from the MTA captured the crime, according to investigators. “This person carried out one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit against another human being,” remarked NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a statement on Sunday afternoon.
Later that day, a group of three high school students spotted the suspect on a different F train at the York Street station in Brooklyn and immediately called 911. Police officers managed to stop the train at Herald Square in Manhattan and detained a person of interest, authorities reported.
Police discovered that the suspect had a lighter in his possession at the time of his arrest.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown. While the person of interest has not yet been identified, authorities confirmed that he arrived in the U.S. from Guatemala in 2018, currently resides in a shelter, and has no known criminal history in New York. As of Monday morning, charges are still pending against him, according to law enforcement officials.

Not to minimize this horrific crime, but didn’t this happen over and over again in Israel on Oct 7 2023? The whole country is appalled and horrified by this, but when it comes to 1200 Jews, the WORLD not only has no sympathy, but blames the victims!? There’s reports that there were empty bottles around that woman. I suspect she was not only homeless but also drunk, and quite possibly had spilled some of her drink on herself (maybe when she fell asleep). That would explain why she went up in flames so quickly and why she didn’t struggle or cry out (the police there only realized something was wrong because of the smoke).
It’s horrendous. This guy, as well as that guy who shot the UHC CEO three weeks ago are a perfect example of why we need the death penalty. These are the worst of the worst of scum, and letting them sit for years on the taxpayer’s bill and enjoy a full and healthy life is a complete travesty.
The woman who was a normal white young woman but for some reason the media prefers to show pictures of the murderer.
