Former israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked has called upon the chareidi community to enlist in the Israeli Defense Forces and contribute to the nation’s defense efforts.

Addressing the 21st Yerushalayim Conference, Shaked remarked, “Our attempts to encourage enlistment among the chareidi community through dialogue have proven ineffective. I’ve engaged with some leaders of the chareidi community and proposed the establishment of hesder yeshivos. It’s widely acknowledged that a significant portion of yeshiva students can pursue alternative paths. Unfortunately, the response was negative. This is a matter the State must assert. It’s unacceptable for the chareidim not to serve during times of conflict.

“There must be a shift in this paradigm. We’ve discussed this for years. Since the enactment of the Draft Law in 2014, little progress has been made.”

Commenting on Israel’s handling of the ongoing conflict, Shaked stated, “I believe the IDF is performing exceptionally well. Delegations from various nations visit here to study. I’ve visited Tel Hashomer and witnessed the soldiers’ readiness to make sacrifices. Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar underestimated the strength of the Jewish people – and we will prevail.

“The events of October 7 were undoubtedly a comprehensive failure across various fronts. We faltered in assessment, deterrence, and defense. Despite having what’s perceived as a ‘fully right-wing government,’ we were ‘fully embarrassed’ by the Arabs. October 7 represents one of the darkest days for the Jewish nation since the Holocaust. However, the IDF and political leadership have regrouped, engaging in a commendable struggle. Could we have taken a different approach? Yes. Facilitating fuel and humanitarian aid was a grave mistake.”

Shaked emphasized the importance of addressing UNRWA, stating, “The Israeli government has a historic opportunity to dismantle this organization once and for all. UNRWA not only supports terrorism but also perpetuates the refugee crisis. Failure to seize this opportunity would be a monumental disgrace.”

  1. Unacceptable that a bunch of irreligious fools should keep starting up with hashem and causing so much churban in klal yisroel we should keep on having them in mind during velamalshinim

  2. What happened to this woman?

Is now the time to induct untrained youth into a situation that they are not interested in? Will it bring about positive results? I don’t think so.

    • And what about those “elite” living in the Shenken neighborhood in Tel Aviv? They neither serve in the army nor do they serve G-d. And why don’t Israeli Arabs do any service for Israel?

  3. “Former israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked”
It’s always a “former” this and “former” that. Just another bitter person. What does she offer already?

  4. It’s “unacceptable” that the views of someone who led a party which failed to cross the threshold in the last election is being taken seriously

It’s “unacceptable” that someone who betrayed her voters and joined a leftist government in the previous coalition that placed Lapid and an Arab party in power, is still pretending she is right wing

  5. It’s unacceptable that the wicked heretical identity-thieving Zionists continue to shmad Jews in their little fiefdom and use the excuse of their latest war to apply more pressure on Jews to shmad them in the Zionist shmad army. The Zionists invaded the holy land a century ago against the wishes of the chareidim. The Zionists need to leave the Chareidim alone and let them work without requiring the Jews to convert to Zionism in the Zionist shmad army.
