In an interview with Foreign Affairs magazine, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak said that Israel’s belief is that only half of the hostages still held by Hamas are alive.

While acknowledging Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s desire to secure the release of the hostages, Barak expressed skepticism, noting, “Given his record, his tough talk rings hollow.”

Barak highlighted past instances where Netanyahu rejected proposals to eliminate Hamas leadership, suggesting that such inaction has exacerbated the danger faced by the remaining hostages and diminished the prospects of reaching a deal.

Barak added, “Six times in the past 12 years he has rejected plans proposed by the heads of the ISA to eliminate the Hamas leadership. And while he postures, the peril that the remaining hostages face grows, and the odds of completing a deal shrink.”

Regarding the issue of negotiating the release of hostages, Barak emphasized Israel’s sovereign right to decline offers that may cause more harm than good, particularly when dealing with a ruthless terrorist organization like Hamas. Barak said, “Israel is a sovereign country with the right to reject an offer that would do more harm than good — especially an offer from a bloodthirsty terrorist organization such as Hamas. At the same time, however, it makes no sense to constantly proclaim an intention to kill those leaders, as Israeli officials are doing on a daily basis, while also trying to make a deal, knowing that some of the hostages are being used as human shields.”

  1. And Batak “talked” about punishing the lynchers in Ramallah and did nothing so y don’t we examine your record you louse

  2. For someone outside of government for so long, how does Barak know so much information he is not privy to? Wouldn’t the Shin Daled want to know how & from where Ehud is getting this classified information?

  3. This screwball Barak should be hung for treason. I predict that Ehud Barak will be found responsible for the October 7 hamas incursion and massacre. He should then be hung for treason along with the Left wing IDF Officers who assisted him in this endeavor. He will hang like homon with his ten accomplices hanging beneath him.
