In the Hadassah Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem, Mrs. Esther Deri, mother of Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, passed away after six months of illness.

In the past few days, her health deteriorated and she was taken to the hospital. The rabbis added the name “Chaya” and her family did not leave her bed, but the decree was decreed and she returned her soul to her creation.

She was born on April 14, 1937 in Meknes, Morocco, to her father Rabbi Avraham and her mother, Miriam, a”h, immigrated to the Holy Land in 1968 together with her entire family and lived together with her husband Rabbi Eliyahu Deri The family lived in a state of distress and faced many hardships, but despite everything, family life was always conducted with joy. She raised her children to Torah and sent them to study in Torah institutions.

Later, she and her husband moved to Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood, where they continued their many acts of kindness and enlightenment to each and every one of them.

On the first of Iyar 5772, her husband, Rabbi Eliyahu Deri, passed away.

She is survived by a generation of leaders. Minister of the Interior and the Periphery Arieh Machluf Deri, Chairman of Shas, Shlomo (Momo) Deri, Deputy Chairman of KKL-JNF, Rabbi Nissim Deri, Rabbi of Bayit Vegan neighborhood in Jerusalem, the head of Kollel and the Rosh Pina Institute, and her daughter Chana, the wife of her son-in-law Rabbi Shlomo Ben Naim, and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The levaya will take place on Erev Shabbos, at Har HaMenuchos, where she will be buried next to her husband.

Rabbis, public figures, ministers and senior government officials are expected to arrive and comfort the family and Minister Deri during the shiva.
