President Joe Biden expressed in an interview aired last night that Israel should refrain from occupying Gaza in the aftermath of a devastating terrorist attack by Hamas. He characterized such an action as a “big mistake.”

This statement came during his interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” which was recorded on Thursday. When questioned about potential military action in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli Defense Forces, Biden shared his perspective, saying, “I think it’d be a big mistake. Look, what happened in Gaza, in my view, is Hamas and the extreme elements of Hamas don’t represent all the Palestinian people. And I think that it would be a mistake for Israel to occupy Gaza again.”

In response to the imminent military action expected in the northern area of the Gaza Strip, where 1 million people reside, the Israeli government granted them 24 hours to evacuate. The Israeli Defense Forces have been relentlessly striking Gaza with rockets since the initial Hamas deadly attack on October 7.

Biden conveyed his support for establishing a “humanitarian corridor” to ensure the safe passage of innocent civilians away from the ongoing violence. He mentioned ongoing discussions about the possibility of creating such a pathway to protect women and children in the area. However, he acknowledged the challenges in implementing this during the current circumstances.
