Derek Chauvin has been found guilty on second-degree and third-degree murder charges, as well as second-degree manslaughter charges, over the death of George Floyd, who died after being kneeled on for several minutes while being arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota last summer.
Floyd’s death sparked nationwide protests, with millions marching in the streets demanding fundamental changes to police tactics and even the abolishment of “inherently racist” police departments, and raising racial tensions in the US to heights not seen in decades.
Chauvin, whose trial gripped the nation over the last few weeks, is expected to appeal the verdict, with the possibility of a mistrial being declared on appeal looming large.
Two Democrats – Rep. Maxine Waters and President Joe Biden – have made comments in recent days strongly insinuating that they believe Chauvin should be found guilty on murder charges, which Chauvin’s defense could use to demand a mistrial being declared when they appeal the verdict.

I don’t know if he is guilty or not but under the circumstances he can not have a fair trial.
(That would be true of most high profile trials)
The guy has no reason to appeal. In the end he will be found guilty anyway.

PLEASE!!! don’t show the guy’s face. He didn’t deserve to die this way, but he was no tzadik. He had a record of violent crimes, spent time behind bars, the works.
Who cares? I mean seriously. How is this late breaking development going to help me put bread & butter on my kitchen table? How is this going to help me pay my tuition? How is this going to help me marry off my children? Are we that shallow that we should obsess over this one single story (20 blacks get slaughtered like sheep EVERY weekend in Chicago) and be inundated with up to the minute details and every comment by every welfare cheat politician?! Maybe Chauvin is guilty but still…. Imagine this had happened two years ago. There are no protests, no business boarded up, no calls to eliminate or change policing in any way, no protests, and no threats. Floyd is white Chauvin is a black cop. . The police are called by a store that a man is trying to pass counterfeit money. They respond and are confronted by a 6 foot 4 inch career criminal who does not want to be arrested. He is not violent, but is acting irrationally and obviously on drugs. Floyd’s neck did not have ANY bruising on it at all… not on the inside or outside of his body. There is a recording of officer Chauvin calmly offering Floyd to get into the car with George Floyd and roll the window down to calm him down… would the same verdict really have been reached?
