It has been cleared for publication that Corporal Avraham Fetena, aged 20, from Haifa, was killed in the shooting attack at the checkpoint on the “tunnel highway” between Yerushalayim and Gush Etzion. Corporal Fetena was a dedicated member of the Erez Battalion within the Military Police.

The fatal attack, carried out by a group of terrorists from Chevron, resulted in Corporal Fetena sustaining critical injuries and subsequently succumbing to them. Additionally, five others suffered injuries during this assault.

The Shin Bet has identified the terrorists involved in the attack. Abad al-Qader Qawasama, a 26-year-old Hamas operative from Chevron, whose father, Abdullah Qawasama, led Hamas’ military arm in Chevron and was eliminated in 2003. Hassan Mamoun Qapisha, aged 28 from Hebron, is also linked to Hamas, and his uncle, Iman Qapisha, was relocated to Turkey in 2011. The third terrorist, initially reported as 17 years old, is yet to be positively identified.

Preliminary police investigations reveal that around 9:00 a.m., a vehicle with Israeli license plates (likely forged or copied) reached the tunnel checkpoint from Judea and Samaria. The occupants raised suspicion among security forces, leading them to halt the vehicle for inspection at a checkpoint near the inspection booth. Subsequently, three terrorists opened fire on the Israeli forces from close range. Swiftly, police officers, Border Police, IDF soldiers, and civilian security guards at the scene engaged with the attackers, neutralizing all three with live fire within moments.
