America”s top infectious diseases expert, Anthony Fauci, cautioned today that it would be a “bridge too far” to think that treatment or vaccines would be ready in time to re-open schools and colleges in the Fall session this year, at a highly anticipated US Senate hearing on the domestic coronavirus outbreak.
“The idea of having treatments available or a vaccine to facilitate the reentry of students into the full term would be something that would be a bit of a bridge too far,” Fauci said.
He explained that the drugs that have shown efficacy so far have been used on hospitalised patients and are not even close to being used as prophylaxis or treatment for students.
“Even at the top speed we”re going, we don”t see a vaccine, playing to the ability of individuals to get back to school this term,” Fauci said, putting an official stamp on the medical questions surrounding the swirling debate over school reopening.
Fauci warned the Congress that reopening the economy too soon during the pandemic will result in “needless suffering and death.”He urged the states to “go by the guidelines”, referring to the detailed rubric put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), but reportedly shelved by the White House. Fauci, who is self-quarantining after a White House staffer tested positive for the virus, is one among four health experts testifying remotely to a Senate panel.

This guy is off the rails I can’t even listen to him anymore. I take issue with how this article started “America”s top infectious diseases expert”. He is a bureaucrat that runs the NIH, and how he got to rise to that position is dubious.
He has been wrong on just about every facet of this disease. His department has a $5.1 Billion budget, the CDC has an additional $8 billion budget, and both of them were caught woefully unprepared. What have they been doing with all of that money?
Only in D.C. can ineptitude be rewarded with career advancement, larger budgets and more power.

It is astonishing to hear the rishus both of Matzav and of the commenters. I listened to the testimony today. Dr Fauci simply said that there will not be a vaccine available by the opening of the school year. He offered no judgement regarding school opening, and in fact at the end of the hearing Senator Lamar Alexander, a Republican, clarified this exact point with Dr Fauci. Dr Fauci actually said that school opening would depend on the area of the country, local viral conditions, etc. HE DID NOT SAY SCHOOLS COULD NOT OPEN. STOP LYING.
Why can’t the government let the hundreds of thousands who are already immunized (surprise, getting the actual virus is far more effective than getting injected with dead viruses and toxins) back to work and school?

There is no evidence that cases are down BECAUSE of social distancing. Most virus like diseases peak then taper off due to seasonality or herd immunity
