Aryeh Deri announced that he is seeking to have an Ashkenazi representative for his Shas party.

“I receive hundreds of inquiries from people of the Ashkenazi community who tell me: ‘You are the ones who represent me, we feel part of you,’” Deri said. “So, I think there is place for an Ashkenazi representative within Shas. I’m definitely looking for someone suitable for this position.”

  1. The maalah of the Sephardi community that we should learn from is their unswerving loyalty and emunas chachamim, ללא תתור ימין ושמאל. They don’t vote for who “they feel represents them”, they vote for who the gedolim say to vote for. Our siyata dishmaya in eretz yisroel comes from following the gedolim and the chukei hatorah, not from doing what we “feel” is most effective. (See Ben Shapiro for a short but comprehensive synopsis on the importance of feelings in guiding and advising one’s actions.) If Ashkenaz Gedolim tell us to vote Gimmel, who are we to think differently, the same way the Sephardim kedoshim listen to their gedolim to vote Shas?
