Passengers on Elal flight LY26 are stranded in Halifax, Nova Scotia for Shabbos after their flight was diverted shortly after from departing from New York en route to Tel Aviv.

The pilot put out a Mayday call after the cabin started filling with smoke. Air traffic controllers were able to reroute the flight to the nearest airport in Halifax. The plane then circled back and after dumping most of the fuel, was able to land safely.

According to passengers on the plane, the smoke stemmed from a malfunctioning lightbulb located in the back of the main cabin.

Frum Jews on the flight are stuck in Halifax for Shabbos as to continue on their destination would have left them traveling to close to Shabbos. Watch below as massive amounts of food from Gourmet Glatt and Chap-a-Nosh were ordered to be flown to the remote Canadian province to feed all the Jews for Shabbos.

    • They could have flown back to NY – if the plane was safe to fly – it needs to be checked out & fixed. But the passengers just came from there, on their way to Israel, if its safe to fly, they would continue on their journey

    • Don’t know if u realize where Halifax Nova Scotia is exactly, yes it’s part of Canada just like Puerto Rico is part of the USA.

  2. Hashgachah Protis that they had technical problems and were able to land in Halifax as the plane would have arrived much too late.

  3. I think it would have been nice to at least include the Montreal Jewish community that was also involved in providing food for the stranded passengers. As well since when is Nova Scotia a remote Canadian province.
I would appreciate that you realize that Canada has an active and functioning
Jewish community with many communities all over this land. We are also proud Jews.
