Moshe Etzion, 88, a holocaust survivor and a bereaved father, ended his own life Sunday at the gravesite of his son.
Ze’ev Etzion, 55, a resident of Kibbutz Nirim on the border with Gaza, was killed by a mortar bomb fired in the final hours of the 2014 Israeli-Hamas war. His father took his own life on the Hebrew anniversary of Ze’ev’s death.
Moshe Etzion departed from his home in the kibbutz early Sunday morning and when he did not return, the authorities began a search for him.
He was found dead by his son’s grave, the Eshkol Regional Council said, and will be buried Monday.
Ze’ev, known also as Zevik, served as security officer, a medic, and an ambulance driver during the summer 2014 war – referred to as Operation Protective Edge in Israel.
He was killed August 26 by shrapnel from a Hamas-launched mortar.
