A massive blaze ripped through Mordy’s Shtiebel in Lakewood, NJ early Tuesday morning, drawing a large emergency response as firefighters worked to bring the raging blaze under control and concern mounted over the fate of the Sifrei Torah inside.
The fire broke out at the shul at 15 Delaware Trail, off County Line Road near the Lakewood-Jackson border.
Dozens of firefighters and other emergency personnel rushed to the scene, where heavy flames were reported throughout the structure as crews battled the intense fire.
The Sifrei Torah were safely removed from the shul.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Mordy’s Shtiebel was founded in 2020 in memory of Mordy Greenes z”l. The shul was established with a mission of providing a warm, inviting makom Torah utefillah.
