Iran’s judiciary announced on Sunday the execution of a “terrorist” linked to a drone strike on a defense ministry facility in central Iran last year, as reported by AFP citing Iranian state media.

Reportedly, the executed individual had “planned to explode the workshop complex of the Ministry of Defense in Isfahan under guidance of the intelligence officer of the Mossad.”

Details regarding the execution date and the identity of the accused remained unclear at the time of reporting.

Isfahan, home to several of Iran’s nuclear research sites, including a uranium conversion plant, was the target of the drone attack in January 2023, which Iran attributed to Israel. The attack prompted Iran’s intelligence ministry to arrest the alleged perpetrators a month later.

Accusations of sabotage on Iranian territory are frequently leveled against Israel by Iran, often resulting in the capture and execution of individuals accused of espionage for Israel.

Just recently, Iran declared the execution of four individuals accused of spying for the Mossad. According to Iran, these individuals allegedly met with Mossad chief David Barnea and underwent training in Africa before infiltrating Iran through the Kurdish region of Iraq.

In December, Iran announced the execution of an alleged “Israeli Mossad spy” in the southeast of the country.

In past instances, Iran has executed Iranian nationals accused of collaborating with the Mossad, alleging they received directives from a Mossad agent operating out of Sweden.

In 2020, Iran carried out the execution of an individual convicted of spying on its armed forces on behalf of both the US and Israel.
