Israeli ministers convened on Tuesday for an unrgent meeting focused on a “humanitarian issue” linked with Syria.
The details of the discussion are largely kept in secrecy, but according to a report in Walla!, Russia, a key ally of Damascus, is involved in the matter.
In recent weeks, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi all recently speaking with their respective Russian counterparts on the issue.
Russia, which holds much sway in Syria after backing its President Bashar Assad in the fight against the Islamic State terrorists and rebels, has frequently worked as a mediator in secretive contacts between Jerusalem and Damascus.
