IT’S OFFICIAL: Knesset Dissolves, New Elections Called For September 17th

Israel is officially heading back to the polling stations for an unprecedented second national election this year after Prime Minister Netanyahu failed to create a majority coalition.

Israel’s parliament voted to dissolve itself after Netanyahu failed to meet the midnight deadline to form a new government, despite desperate eleventh hour offers to that were put on the table.

After a raucous 12-hour debate, lawmakers approve by a vote of 74 to 45 a Likud-drafted bill to dissolve the 21st Knesset and hold new elections on September 17.
