Millions of Americans lost their unemployment coverage on Saturday as President Trump resisted signing a sweeping $900 billion aid package until lawmakers more than tripled the size of relief checks, putting the fate of the measure in limbo.

Mr. Trump’s resistance to signing the bill risks leaving millions of unemployed Americans without crucial benefits, jeopardizes other critical assistance for businesses and families set to lapse at the end of the year and raises the possibility of a government shutdown on Tuesday.

The president blindsided lawmakers this week when he described as “a disgrace” a relief compromise that overwhelmingly passed both chambers and was negotiated by his own Treasury secretary. He hinted that he might veto the measure unless lawmakers raised the bill’s $600 direct payment checks to $2,000, and Mr. Trump, who was largely absent from negotiations over the compromise, doubled down on that criticism on Saturday while offering little clarity on his plans. A White House spokesman declined to indicate what the president intended to do.

  1. the President is right for not signing this bill that gives money to everyone EXCEPT AMERICAN CITIZENS – let the Congress take out all the pork and give the Americans the $2000 NOW

  2. President Donald Trump on Saturday demanded Congress deliver better aid to Americans suffering from the coronavirus pandemic as he rejected the bloated relief bill
“Increase payments to the people, get rid of the ‘pork,’” Trump wrote on Twitter, sharing his video from Tuesday highlighting the billions of dollars in aid sent overseas while Americans only received $600 per person in direct coronavirus relief in the bill.
Increased unemployment payments expired Saturday, prompting corporate media and Democrats to pressure the president to sign the bill as he continues his Christmas vacation at Mar-a-Lago.
But Trump defended his demands for something better.
“I simply want to get our great people $2000, rather than the measly $600 that is now in the bill. Also, stop the billions of dollars in ‘pork,’” Trump wrote on Twitter, and added, “Remember, it was China’s fault!”
Congressional leadership appears unwilling to return to the negotiation table, as many believe Trump will eventually buckle to political pressure to sign the bloated $2.3 trillion bill that funds the government for the year and offers coronavirus aid.

  3. Good now my son in law can leave the Kollel, go to work at a lucrative firm and support himself. Ty mr Trump u did it again. You know everything. The .0001% love you.

    • You’re right. Hunter Biden got paid millions of dollars from foreign countries for doing nothing. It’s a shame that Congress is so corrupt that they have turned a blind eye to the Biden crime family.
