The leader of the opposition in Israel, Yair Lapid, criticized Sephardic Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchok Yosef’s recent statement suggesting that Israel’s defense during the ongoing conflict was attributed to yeshiva students rather than the efforts of the security forces.

Lapid questioned Rav Yosef’s stance, stating, “I wonder whether he would agree to not have the Iron Dome in his neighborhood. The people who applauded him should enlist like any other young Israeli.”

Lapid made the comments on Kan public radio.

Amit Mizrachi, an entrepreneur and lawyer, expressed his disagreement with Rav Yosef’s remarks in an article on X, suggesting, “By that logic, Rav Yitzchok Yosef should go to jail with his supporters for their failure on October 7.”

Rav Yosef’s comments came during a weekly shiur captured on video, where he attributed Israel’s survival amidst the conflict to Divine intervention, specifically crediting Torah students for their diligent study. He stated, “13,000 missiles were lobbed at our country… Thanks to what? Thanks to the Torah students and yeshiva students, who sit and study the Torah.”

Furthermore, Rav Yosef said that the safety of Israelis from attacks in various regions, including the north, south, and by Hamas terrorists, was primarily due to the protective merit of yeshiva members and their devotion to Torah study.

  1. Thank you Hashem that we have such a bold and courageous (not to mention incredibly massive Gadol B’torah) Chief Rabbi, who is not afraid to stand up for the truth and tell it like it is!

  2. This evil Zionist heretic (that was redundant) is, of course, spewing Zionist blasphemy (again, redundant), as always.

All of the Zionists’ Iron Domes (and armies) are utterly worthless without the merits of Torah learners who happen to live in the Zionist paradise.

  3. By that logic…

He does not understand chazal who said when eyn hakol kol Yaakov hayeayaim yedei eisav that was 10/7
And when Iran sent missiles it was niskayem bisman shehakol kol Yaakov, eyn hayadayim yedei eisav

  4. There’s no way that all of Israel would have been saved SO MIRACULOUSLY by the G-dless army from the HUNDREDS of DEADLY MISSILES from Iran. It’s CLEARLY the Hand of Hashem, credit to the Torah-Learning-Jews.
