Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu party announced Thursday it will support a bill that prevents lawmakers under indictment to form a coalition.
If such a law were to pass, it would disqualify Israel’s incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from heading Israel’s next government, as he is currently indicted on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
“In the faction meeting that now ended it was decided to promote two laws,” Yisrael Beiteinu revealed in a statement.
“The first will limit the prime minister’s tenure to two terms. The second will prevent an MK (Member of Knesset) under indictment the ability to stand as a candidate to form a government.”
