manhattan-streetNearly seven miles of Manhattan streets will be traffic-free but open to cyclists and walkers for three consecutive weekends this month. Park Avenue and connecting streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park will be closed to vehicles from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 8, 15 and 22. It’s the second year of the Summer Streets program, which aims to encourage New Yorkers to embrace alternate forms of transportation.

Dozens of activities are planned this year.

It’s modeled after events in Bogota, Colombia, and Paris, France.
