The Association of Congregational Rabbis launched a “new suits” campaign, giving hundreds of its community rabbonim $420 vouchers to buy new suits.
“Our public has a high awareness, and rightly so, of the inner avodah and the inner world, but [puts] much less investment in the outer and aesthetic dimension,” explained association chairman Rav Amichai Eliyahu.
“We therefore went out on a campaign and distributed hundreds of suits to rabbonim,” he said. “A shul rov cannot allow himself to be without a suit. But many of them are unpaid and accept their [gratis] work as self-understood. Some rabbonim told me that this is their first suit. Some told me that they have not changed suits in 12 years.”
