An American Airlines flight heading to London on Wednesday turned around about an hour after leaving Miami when a “disruptive customer” refused to wear a mask, the airline said.
No one was hurt, and the Boeing 777 landed safely at Miami International Airport at 9:24 p.m., American Airlines spokesman Curtis Blessing said in an email.
Officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department escorted the passenger, a woman believed to be in her 40s, off the plane without incident. Argemis Colome, a department spokesman, said the passenger was not arrested and police treated the incident as a disturbance call.
“She was pretty much dealt with administratively by the airline,” Colome said.
Blessing said the passenger has been placed on the airline’s list of customers who are not allowed to fly pending additional investigation.
The flight with 129 passengers and 14 crew was canceled; travelers were booked on other flights.
“We thank our crew for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” he said in an emailed statement.
It was just the latest example of disruptive behavior by an air traveler, which reached record levels in 2021. The Federal Aviation Administration said it received 5,981 reports of unruly passengers, 4,290 of which were mask-related last year. As of Tuesday, the number this year had reached 151 cases, with 92 related to masks.

Curtis Blessing. Really? What a name. Because of insane woke people like Blessing, the world is going to h in a hand basket. To turn around an entire plane because one passenger refused to wear a mask? If Covid was spread thru this passenger, it was too late already. What was accomplished by turning the plane around? They’ve all caught Covid and are going to die within the week anyway. Stupid nonsensical decision. Who exactly was punished? It was all the passengers that were wearing their masks. Now, all the complying passengers who were following instructions, were all screwed. Now they were all late to where they were going. Why did 100’s of passengers have to be punished because of one person? It was too late at that point. They should of taken him in, in England.

Their manager at Newark is an awful, awful woman and although numerous complaints were filed, the airline just pedals he up and defends her. American Airlines has become so bad.
Insanity
I’m have a great idea to end the mask mandate on the airlines. We need a group of anonymous “askanim” of means to form a secret group that “hires” people to travel on international flights (from a coastal US airport to a foreign country over the ocean), one person per flight, and after about 1-1 1/2 hours out (about 500 miles out), remove his/her mask and refuse to put it back on. Figure we should affect about 30-50 full flights daily. The airline will then turn the plane around, thus disrupting the travel of over 5k paying passengers daily. The hired person will at worst be put on a no-fly list for that airline.
We keep this up until the airlines have no choice but to abolish the mask nonsense. How long will it take, a week? 2 weeks? It certainly is worth a try…

If she doesn’t listen to that rule she may not listen to safety instructions and puts everyone on the flight at risk!

They should have continued the flight and forced the non-mask wearing passenger to eat only the koshe LePesach meal.

That being said, I flew AA yesterday from JFK . It was full if yidden and it was a very pleasant flight without any airline personnel bothering passengers about their face diapers. Other than the pre-recorded announcements.
It is a marvel. I regard this as very bad news.
