On a radio show that aired on Sunday, an NYPD official issued a grave warning: the Supreme Court decision that struck down a New York law limiting who can carry a firearm in public could turn the state into the “wild, wild East.” Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller told “The Cats Roundtable” that he suspects that the decision will greatly increase the number of dangerous individuals who own guns. The landmark 6-3 decision nullified a law that required New Yorkers to demonstrate “proper cause” that they needed to carry a handgun for self-defense.
“The mayor, the police commissioner, and every police officer has a grave concern that putting more guns on the streets of New York is not going to come to a good end,” Miller said. Read more at the New York Post.
Good point. Only criminals should be allowed to carry guns.
Is it not the Wild East already? Self defense weapons in the hands of trained citizens must be a deterrent. Look at the statistics. The stats bear out this claim. For the most part perps are feckless cowards. They will back down when they see a ferocious guard dog and they will back down when they see an armed determined homeowner.
On the flip side, this could be a good thing!
Think about it: Every summer Tens of thousands of American tourists flock to the West Coast to tour the old time Cowboy territories known as the “Wild, Wild West’. Now, however, they don’t need to travel to the West Coast for that because New York City will have its own version of the “Wild, Wild West” called the “Wild, Wild East.” What a wonderful tourist attraction!
But lets be honest with ourselves, New York City has been a “Wild, Wild East” ever since the Republicans left Gracie Mansion, and the Dems took over. The Dems transformed this city into a “Wild, Wild East”, and the transformation occurred only recently – over the last several years; and it occurred quite rapidly, a lot quicker than most New Yorkers expected.
It sounds as though the deputy commissioner missed the details of how narrow this ruling is.
This ruling is only applicable to those who have obtained a permit to own a gun in NYC.
Given how difficult it is to obtain such a permit (takes over two years and is an extremely intrusive process).
The short description of the ruling is that you cannot bar licensed gun owners from carrying their guns.
Quite logical and fits quite clearly into the second amendment. Once you agree that a certain person is not a threat and issue them a license to own a gun, what grounds do you have to infringe on their right to bear said arms?
So in summation, there will not be very many additional legal guns on the streets of NYC based on this very narrow ruling.

The Supreme Court also eased the process to obtain a license. If until now you needed to justify your reasoning for obtaining a firearm, now the mere desire for one is enough, provided you pass the background checks, are in good mental health, and you haven’t been convicted of a felony.
