A crash shortly after noon today on Route 17 has left one person dead.
The accident occurred between Exits 116 and 117 on the westbound side of the roadway, with the vehicle in question catching fire.
The accident brought traffic on both sides of the highway to a standstill, delaying many Yidden heading to the Catskills for Shabbos.
Hatzolah EMTs were joined at the scene by police and fire personnel. A helicopter parked on Route 17 itself to airlift any injured passengers to the hospital.
As mentioned, one person was killed. The extent of injuries to others is not yet known.
