Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are among 104 countries where there is kashrus supervision by the Orthodox Union’s Kashrus Division, Jerusalem Post reported. Two OU mashgichim were sent to supervise factories in Saudi Arabia and Dubai in March. Rav Moshe Elefant, OU COO, said that the kashrus issues were simple and the mashgichim left after a few hours.
Rav Elefant said that both companies involved approached the OU and that addition of the two countries to its roster was “a reflection of the changing geopolitical situation where these countries have warmed considerably to Israel” due to the common threat from Iran.
OU also supervises products in the Islamic countries of Indonesia, Malaysia and Egypt.
