Enjoy your summer, Chicago. Chances are there won’t be as many newspaper photos in the paper to remember it by.
In more depressing news for the media industry, the Chicago Sun-Times laid off its entire photo staff – about 20 full-timers – Thursday, the Chicago Tribune has learned. The move is apparently part of the Sun-Times‘s effort to keep up with its “digitally savvy customers,” which means shifting their focus toward video.
“The Sun-Times business is changing rapidly and our audiences are consistently seeking more video content with their news,” reads an announcement released Thursday. The Chicago Newspaper Guild’s executive director has already denounced the paper’s actions, calling it a “terrible move.”
