Palestinian officials said on Tuesday they were hopeful that Israel’s upcoming election, scheduled for March 2021, finally “marks the end of the Netanyahu era,” according to The Jerusalem Post.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reportedly told his associates, however, that he hopes the new poll will not scuttle a planned international conference on Middle East peace set for early next year.
In October, Abbas sent a letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres urging him to hold urgent consultations with the Middle East Quartet and the United Nations Security Council over the peace process.
