The Israeli embassy in Washington received instructions not to facilitate the trip of war cabinet minister Benny Gantz to the US, as Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu did not authorize it, according to a report by the Kan public broadcaster.
Furthermore, the report suggests that Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog will not be involved in the visit, although it does not specify the source of this directive.
Reportedly, Netanyahu was deeply displeased by Gantz’s decision to embark on the journey for meetings with senior US officials without obtaining his approval.
As reported earlier here on Matzav.com, a source close to Netanyahu conveyed the premier’s stance, stating, “Prime Minister Netanyahu made it clear to Minister Gantz that the State of Israel only has one prime minister.”
The source highlighted that the trip was arranged in violation of government protocols, which mandate that “every minister must obtain clearance from the prime minister in advance for travel, including approval of the travel itinerary.”
Gantz, a former military chief and defense minister, stands as Netanyahu’s primary political adversary in opinion polls. Following the October 7 attack by the Palestinian terror group Hamas, which sparked the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, Gantz brought his National Unity party into the government.
