According to a recent poll conducted by Monmouth, a majority of Republican voters believe that former President Donald Trump is the most viable candidate to defeat President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential primary. The poll asked respondents about their views on the Republican candidate with the best chance of winning in 2024, regardless of their current support for Trump.

Out of the total respondents, 63 percent expressed that Trump had the strongest chance of defeating Biden, while 32 percent believed in another candidate. Among the 63 percent who favored Trump, 45 percent were confident that he was the unequivocal strongest candidate, while 18 percent believed he was probably the strongest. On the other hand, out of the 32 percent who believed in an alternative candidate, 19 percent thought that another candidate would probably be stronger, while only 13 percent believed that another candidate would definitely be stronger.

In terms of specific matchups, the poll revealed that Trump had a significant lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with 43 percent support compared to DeSantis’s 19 percent. Interestingly, Trump’s numbers had improved by two points since March, while DeSantis’s support had decreased by eight points.

The poll surveyed 655 Republican voters shortly before DeSantis entered the GOP primary, from May 18 to 24, 2023, with a margin of error of 5.5 percent. Both Trump and DeSantis garnered high favorability ratings among Republicans, with Trump at 77 percent and DeSantis at 73 percent.

The poll indicated that Trump held an advantage across various Republican voter groups, except for college graduates. It highlighted that three months ago, DeSantis was leading among major demographic groups within the party.

Patrick Murray, the director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, commented that DeSantis had lost ground even before officially entering the race. While Republican voters still hold a favorable view of DeSantis, he has yet to make a convincing case for why they should choose him over Trump as the party’s best option in the upcoming primary.

  1. Trump won in all the States in 2020 which will soon be publicized. But the goal for Trump as President was to drain the swamp which he was working on and did homework for since 1995. If the swamp will not be drained by the time of elections, then the fake Biden or fake Desantis will come into play again.

      • It’s because of gullible dummies like you that they were able to fool the public with fake virus and poisonous shots.

  2. Apparently Trump is running alone as the rest are clones, doubles and actors who can only ‘win’ if they’re needed (like Biden).

  3. Trump is almost guarantied to lose to Biden. His only chance of winning is due to the fact that from the many, many similarities shared by Trump & Biden is that you can never underestimate the ability of either one of them to mess up.

  4. I’m curious, what percentage (if any) of the American public, actually believes that Biden is doing a good job as president and is a decent human being? It’s one thing to chose him over an alternative, but they can’t really believe that he is good for the job, can they?
