It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of R’ Nosson Nota Yitzchok (Sandy) Hofstedter z”l, one of the noted leading members of the Toronto community.
R’ Nosson Nota was the father of Rav Dovid Hofstedter, nosi of the Dirshu International.
R’ Nosson Nota was born in Hungary, a son of R’ Zev and Matil Hofstedter, noted baalei chesed and machnisei orech.
During the Holocaust, he was taken with many members of his family to the Nazi concentration camps. After the war, he shook off the horrors he experienced to re-establish his life, not only in the establishment of his family, but becoming involved in educational enterprises and raising funds for mosdos around the world.
He settled in Toronto in the late 1940s and saw tremendous success in the real estate field, using his largesse to assist numerous mosdos haTorah.
Recently, R’ Nosson Nota fell ill, passing away on Shabbos Chanukah.
The levayah was held yesterday at Machzikei Hadas in Toronto. The aron is being brought to Eretz Yisroel today and the levayah will be held this afternoon at Merom Harim Shul in Ramot, Yerushalayim, en route to Har Hamenuchos for kevurah there.
